TJ Hartman Racing - Update: Observing!

Puyallup, WA - October 24, 2011...

Another off-season appears to be the flavor of the day for TJ and his race team.  The Puyallup WA driver is busy wrapping up his product sponsor contacts, and keeping an eye on the road ahead.  A return to watch some indoor racing freshened the desire for speed, and has TJ keeping his eyes and ears open for whatever he can find.

It has been several years since TJ participated in the indoor racing season, which is mostly reserved for karts, mini-sprints, and midgets.  The last time he and his family ventured South after September, TJ was wheeling a much smaller race car.  "I was still in a quarter midget"  TJ explains.  "That was a long time ago.  Toby(Michael Tobash) called me up this week and asked if I wanted to ride along with him down to Salem(Oregon).  I hadn't seen the cage karts run, and there has been a lot of talk about them, so I decided to go with him."

TJ has always adopted the policy that you can learn as much by watching, as you can being in the seat.  He continues the story:  "They say those things have the power to weight ratio of a sprint car, and they look like a lot of fun to drive.  It was fun to talk with everyone down there, and maybe I can find one to drive before their season is over.  I had a good time hanging out with Toby, and want to thank him for asking me to go along."

TJ is using this downtime to touch base with his current partners.  "We needed to do some work on the headers and mufflers" says TJ.  "It was a perfect time to get caught up with Michael(Beckler's Mobile Welding), and get some work done and talk about next year.  Michael has helped me since quarter midgets, and always takes care of me.  Then Brad and the guys at Performance Coatings re-coated everything and did outstanding work as usual.  Everything looks brand new again.  Brad said he's on board for next year too, and that is nice to know that somebody like Performance Coatings and Brad are willing to help a local racer.  I love showing off their work too!"

The limited schedule in 2011 wasn't exactly conducive to getting his sponsors names out there, but that didn't stop Martia from Rod End Supply from committing to TJ for the 5th straight year.  TJ picks up the story:  "I feel like the relationships I have with the people that help me is more than just a sponsorship.  When I called Martia, I apologized for not running too much this year, but she understands what it's like for all the racers.  She said her and Bob are with me for next year, without hesitation, and that means a lot to me.  You just can't find better people that treat you like a family.  I'm very happy to have Martia and Bob and Rod End Supply back to support me next year."

There are a few more announcements TJ is working on, and hopes to tie up those loose ends before the Holidays set in.  He is also searching for funding for the 2012 racing season, and hopes that he is able to secure something before the year is out.  "I'm looking at a couple different ways to go"  TJ states.  "I've never driven someone else's sprint car, and I'm looking at that as a possibility for next year.  I know I have what it takes to drive and work on the car at the races, but I think that has held me back a little bit too.  I would like to get into a situation where I'm just driving and relaying info to a crew chief.  Letting someone else make the other decisions will help me focus on the driving part.  So whether that's in my car, or someone else's, I think it's a direction I need to go."

TJ finishes the update:  "I want to congratulate Lori Organ and Paul Silva on the birth of their baby - Kaylee Madison.  Paul and Lori have become good friends to us over the past couple of years, and I know this has to be an exciting time for both of them and all of their family.  Someday maybe I can give Paul some setup advice on Kaylee's quarter midget!"

Stay up to date with TJ by following along on his twitter account or Facebook page.  Please don't forget to support those who support TJ Hartman Racing.  They are a big part of why we are able to do what we do.
