TJ Hartman Racing - Update: Kooka Bird Goes South!

Brisbane, QLS Australia - December 29, 2012...

TJ's trip Down Under is off to a slow start, despite being able to show some speed this past Saturday night at Archerfield Speedway in Scott Wilson's Western Landscape Supplies #59 midget.  With help from veteran crew chief Brent(Glenno) Inglis, the Sid Whittaker racing prepared mount climbed near the top of the hot lap/time trial session, before something went awry in the Ed Pink Mopar.  Early indications are that the engine sucked part of the oil filter into the oil passages and ended the night before it ever really got started.

The crew dropped the exhausted engine at the builder early Sunday morning, and it was determined that the repairs cannot be completed in time for the January 1st meeting at Grafton Speedway. "It's been a frustrating start." TJ states. "We've all worked hard the past two weeks to sort out the other issues, and then to have this happen isn't too good.  Scott put a great piece together for me and I'm just glad I was able to get the engine shut off before it scattered parts everywhere."

All is not lost however, as Scott, Sid, and the team are committed to keeping TJ in a seat while he's there.  Without a spare engine for the Scott Wilson owned car, the team determined the next best thing was to simply swap TJ's Butlerbuilt seat into one of the Sid Whittaker owned midgets.  The King Chassis utilizes an Esslinger powerplant owned by Sid's crew chief Colin Davies, and the decision to make the seat swap was to alleviate the time and work constraints of setting the Spike chassis up with a completely different powerplant.

"It's a difficult decision to park the green car."  says the 21 year old.  "Scott and Western Landscape Supplies deserve the recognition while I'm down here.  But this was the simplest thing to do, and I can't thank Sid and Col enough for stepping up and keeping a car under me while I'm here."

The team will head South to Grafton Speedway in New South Wales for a meeting on New Years Day, before heading to Lismore Speedway on January 5th.  Sponsors on the Q57 entry that TJ will be piloting are: Ti64-Ti Bolts & Race Partz, Australian Paving Services, and GW Racing.  TJ adds: "I want to thank Glenno for helping out this weekend.  He was a pleasure to work with.  I'm looking forward to Lismore and Grafton, meeting more new people and racing two new race tracks."
