TJ Hartman Racing - UPDATE - TJ takes another step!

Puyallup, WA - May 22, 2009...

The story would usually read 'driver finds time to pass his college placement exams in between races and working on the race car'. But for this 17 year old Emerald Ridge High School Junior, the opposite rings true. TJ knows the priority is school first, and for now, racing is simply a privilege. The hard driving Puyallup resident successfully passed his college placement exams this afternoon, enabling him to enroll in the Running Start program and graduate high school after the first semester of his Senior year, while garnering college credits at the same time.

This is a goal TJ set for himself earlier this school year, and he proved once again that he is able to achieve virtually anything he sets his mind to. TJ picks up the story: "I heard about the Running Start program last Fall, but it was too late for me to get into it for my Junior year. I found out I knew a couple of kids who were already in the program, and I figured it was something I would like to do."

The program, set up through Pierce College in Puyallup, enables high school students to take advanced courses beyond what the high school classes entail, but it applies credits towards both college and high school. The end result is it allows the students to graduate high school early, get a jump start on college, and it challenges the students who pass the placement exams. "It's a win-win situation for me." TJ states. "I've taken advanced math courses before, but this will be something a little different. Getting a jump on college like this means I won't have to take the core classes to begin with once I'm in college full time. I'll be able to take the more advanced courses for the major I take up right away."

TJ has always challenged himself, and just like running a sprint car at 100mph or more, he is taking this serious. "I was a little nervous taking the test today. But my mom and dad told me I can do anything I set my mind to, and once I got in the room I just calmed down and it went pretty well. I called my dad right away when I found out that I passed." He adds in his traditional smile: "It felt good to get this done, and I'm already looking forward to next school year."

TJ's entire team is proud of this accomplishment, and we are looking forward to tagging along as TJ leads the way into the future - starting this Memorial Day weekend, as he races two straight nights at the Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, WA. Having support for racing from his family, friends, fans, and sponsors, allows TJ to focus on the really important things - like education and the future. The team would like to thank those who support us, and encourage each of you to do the same.

Next scheduled stop - Cupcakes and Racing to celebrate the achievement!
