TJ Hartman Racing - UPDATE - Ahead of schedule!

Puyallup, WA - July 5, 2009...

The crash that brought TJ's racing season to a screeching halt a month ago has actually accelerated his plans. With the teams only engine damaged in the wreck, a decision was made to see how much lemonade could be squeezed from the lemons he was left with. While he sorts through what is left of his Maxim chassis and waits for word on the extent of the crash damage to his Wesmar engine, TJ made a call to see if he could sign up for some lessons in sprint car racing 101.

Before school had even let out for the summer, TJ was busy making plans to further his education. He picks up the story: "Well I knew we wouldn't be racing for a little while, but I knew I wanted to be at the track. We decided to see if I could hook up with a National touring team for part of the Summer, and it looks like I'll be heading off to see some tracks I've never seen before."

The racing community has been very supportive of TJ, and many have been offering up what they can to keep TJ active in racing. TJ talks about the timing: "I'll be graduating early, and planned on getting on a team to learn some more things next season. But since this happened, I figured I may as well do it now and make the most of the time. We talked with Kelly(Wesmar Racing) and he had a couple of ideas and helped make it happen. I really want to say thanks to him. I can't wait to get going and start learning."

With most of his own equipment destroyed in the crash, TJ hasn't let it get him down. "Of course I'm disappointed." he states. "But this will give me a chance to pick up on other stuff and help me down the road. We went ahead and repaired the rear end and sorted through what we have left. The trip to the recycling center was an eye opener. They don't give you very much for scrap metal. We saved a few things but most of it was junk." TJ adds with a laugh: "It did make it a little easier to move around in the shop though!"

Things happen fast in sprint car racing, and the adjustment to TJ's 2009 schedule is no exception. He talks a little about what's coming up: "I'm going to hook up with the team during Northwest Speedweek, and then it looks like I'll be heading back with them and helping out through the Knoxville races. I'm gonna get to see a bunch of different tracks and people I've never seen before. I think I can learn a lot by helping out guys who are experienced and getting this opportunity is really cool."

TJ's own team is just as excited as he is about the opportunity. Everyone is eager to watch him develop beyond being a driver. As the weather heats up this Summer, quenching a thirst for racing is going to be washed down with freshly squeezed lemonade. TJ and his team want to thank his fans and sponsors and those who support us through supporting the people who make it possible for TJ to be at the track.

Next scheduled stop - Packing the duffle bag with clean clothes and PB&J!
